Say you run into a spot of trouble and you need to clearly convey your problem to someone else. Based on the premise that “a picture is worth a thousand words”, you could say that creating a video of your problem would be an efficient means to approach the issue. The thing is that video capture and editing tools can be difficult to use. A more efficient means would be to use a screen capture utility that allows you to capture images, edit them, and share them with ease. That sort of functionality is provided by the Blue Mango Learning Systems-developed application Clarify.

Clarify is available for Microsoft Windows (XP, Vista, or 7) and for Apple Mac OS X desktop operating systems (from 10.5 Leopard onward). Installing the application on a Windows PC is a simple process that goes along smoothly and rapidly. Just download an executable, run it, click through the setup wizard, and you will be done before you know it. When you launch the application for the first time, you will be presented with a prompt that features three options: create your first document, watch the quick start movie, view the online help documentation.

The interface is made up of two panels. The one to the left presents all the items in your project as a list – these items can be images that you captured and edited with the application, existing images that you loaded into the application, or text that you typed in or pasted. Select an item from the list and it will be presented in the panel to the right. Above these two panels there are several buttons that you can use to access the functionality offered by Clarify.

Speaking about that, the application’s functionality can be divided into three categories: capture, edit, share.
Capture – you can use the application to take a screenshot of whatever is displayed on your screen. You can capture the entire desktop or just a region of the desktop.
Edit – once you have your screenshot, you can edit it: crop, rotate, insert text, and a few other editing functions are provided. All of them are, as mentioned above, meant to help you efficiently describe your predicament.
Share – once you’re done with your project, you can save it as a .clarify file or export it as a PDF or image file; you can take these files and share them with others. On top of that, you can share your projects via Clarify-it.com, Evernote, or by attaching a PDF to an outgoing email.

Visually communicate with your coworkers by taking advantage of the powerful functionality offered by Clarify.

Pros

Clarify is available for Windows and Mac. There’s a handy quick start movie you can watch. You will have no problems getting accustomed to the interface. With Clarify, you can take screenshots, edit them, and share them. You can create a multi-step project that includes screenshots, other images, and text.
